Summer Program
Summer is a time for fun—and the Windy Row summer program is set up for fun plus real progress in reading. Our first summer session in 2010 was a hit with the students. Reading became a joyful adventure. The proof? After camp, students eagerly headed home to practice some more!
Windy Row is the New Hampshire pilot test site for the "4-4-4" intervention program that was developed at Tufts University and that has been demonstrating large summer improvements in students for eight years. In our pilot program, each of eight students received 45 minutes of individual instruction in phonics, phonemic awareness and spelling using the Orton-Gillingham technique. In groups of three or four, students received additional instruction using the RAVE-O program. This method, developed at Tufts and validated in a five-year study in Boston, Atlanta, and Toronto, focuses on fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students also worked individually, both at our center and at home, with computer software that tailors practice to a student's unique needs.
Our pilot project program included the services of an occupational therapist who worked with students two days a week to improve their skills in visual perception and left-right integration.
Windy Row is planning now for our 2011 summer tutoring program. Please call us at 924-7198 to sign up your child.
